Tips to Prepare for Your Design Studio Appointment

January 22, 2024

Close your eyes and envision your perfect home – now open them and let’s make it happen! When you choose a new McKee home, you’ll be able to choose everything from flooring and countertops to kitchen and bath cabinets and more! With tons of great selections, you’ll have everything you need to create a home that reflects your personality and style, inside and out.

Designing your new home is one of life’s most rewarding experiences. Yet, while your appointment at our Design Studio is one of the most eagerly anticipated steps in the home-building process, it may also be one of the most stressful. So many options… so many decisions!

As with any large goal, a bit of planning and preparation go a long way. We’ve outlined steps you can take that will help make your design appointment exciting and stress-free.

  1. Write Out Your Must-Haves. Everyone has at least a few “must-haves” for their new home design, and you should too! Because you’ll be choosing so many details like cabinets, countertops, vanities, flooring, and so much more, having a prioritized list of must-haves will help the design process run smoothly. It also gives the designer a better idea of what options to show you at the design studio, such as brushed nickel finishes, darker stained floors, and anything you’re absolutely set on. McKee offers choices to fit every lifestyle, so don’t be afraid to say what you want.
  1. Start A Lookbook. A lookbook is a collection of photos that you put together to draw inspiration from. Making one should be one of the first steps in your interior design plan to give you ideas on what the overall look of your home could be. Browse sites like Pinterest, Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, Country Living, Better Homes and Gardens, and whichever publication catches your eye! Choose your favorite photos and either create a folder of photos on your computer or print them out to start visualizing exactly what you want.
  1. Get A Head Start. Getting a head start in anything is never a bad idea. And when it comes to your design studio appointment, getting a sneak peek of what’s available is ideal for any great interior design plan. At McKee Builders, we have tons of photos in our gallery of completed personalized homes to help you get acclimated to all of our options. Browse through them and take note of anything that grabs your attention!
  1. Stick To Your Timeline. With so many moving parts to the building process, you’ll want to stick to a schedule and prioritize your design studio appointment. It will not only help your design team but will also help you have a smoother overall home design and home building experience. Part of our design plan includes giving you plenty of time to work with professional designers to find the perfect selections for your new home.
  1. Know Your Budget. Another great way to ensure you stick to your timeline is knowing your budget. It can be all too easy to get carried away in the home design studio that you go over and have to start making tough decisions on what to change. Luckily, our expert designers work with budgets of all sizes and will make sure to take you through all of the options that fit within your own, so you can be sure that you’re not missing out on anything while still staying within your budget.
  1. Have Fun! Go into your design studio appointment with one word in mind – fun! This part of the process is all about creating the heart and soul of your home, and we want it to be enjoyable from beginning to end. Dress comfortably, feel confident in your choices, keep an open mind, and start bringing your dream home to life! Pro Tip: During your design appointment, take photos of your selections as you make them. This will help you remember what you chose and make it easier to decorate your finished home.

With a bit of preparation, you can make sure that this experience is one you’ll remember fondly each time you look around your gorgeous new home.
