Featured Team Member: Meet Nic Beardsley!
June 1, 2021
When it comes to the process of buying and building a home, having an incredible team on your side makes all the difference. We’re excited to introduce you to our incredible draftsperson, Nic Beardsley!
What’s your role with McKee Builders?
My official title at McKee is ‘New Homes Drafter’, however that doesn’t mean that I am stuck in a back corner of the Purchasing Department as a CAD monkey! While I do handle new product generation/drafting, I also assist in the coordination of design and construction processes with our consultants, as well as work on processing custom option requests for the New Homes department.
What do you love most about working here?
What I love most about working at McKee is the variety of what I do. Coming from an architectural office, the typical industry intensity didn’t change much. But each day at McKee presents a new challenge as I track and pin down moving parts from all the active projects. They say “variety is the spice of life” and for me that is most refreshing!
What do you wish other people knew about McKee Builders?
That the fun and genuine sincerity you experience from your initial contact with us radiates from the front office through the field. We work hard but everyone always has a smile or laugh to share through the work day. Overall, the energy and focus of this company is incredible and you’re always in great hands!
Where did you grow up? Tell us about your family!
I was born and raised in a small, lakeshore grape town outside of Erie, PA, known as ‘North East’. My parents and two younger brothers still reside there. Since graduating from college in 2011, I have lived in the Philadelphia area with my wife, Kelci, and our cat, Lily!
How do you spend your free time? What do you do to relax?
Free time for me consists of listening to a large amount of music, gaming, taking walks through the local trails, and cooking.
Tell us about someone you admire.
It sounds cliché, but I admire my wife, Kelci, for her work ethic and determination as she traverses the process of medical school and the current chaotic atmosphere of the medical profession. Navigating that is no easy task, yet she manages to stay positive and cheerful throughout it all (and STILL puts up with me!). She is like the energizer bunny, and I strive to be more like that with her positive attitude daily!
What would someone be surprised to know about you?
I am an active music journalist and manage a few heavy metal acts on the side. Music has always been a passion for me, so learning the nuances of the industry and working with upcoming artists to help build their sound, brand, and presence, to achieve label recognition is quite enjoyable for me!
What inspires you and your work?
I am inspired by many things in my work, but three things keep me grounded – music, nature, and functionality. Music keeps me motivated/moving; nature allows me to balance my mind; and functionality is an absolute necessity in any project.
Regarding design, I am inspired by a distilled ideology of the famous modernist architect, Le Corbusier, that ‘the house is a machine for living in’, which incorporates a simplistic functional aesthetic, complimented by natural integrations, for the health and well being of the end users.
