The EnergySmart Home Scale (E-Scale) is a scoring system established by the U.S. Department of Energy that measures the energy performance of a home.

It is based on” the HERS Index which you may be familiar with. By simply subtracting the HERS Index from 100, you get your energy rating. The higher your home’s E-Scale is the more energy efficient it is.
