McKee Builders Wins NAHB Best of 55+ Housing Awards
McKee Builders has taken home top honors at the 2017 Best of 55+ Housing Awards, including Best Single Family Home Under 1,700 Sq. Ft. and Best Community Website. Presented by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the Best of 55+ Housing Awards is the premier design and marketing competition for housing that appeals to older adults.
“We’re excited and honored to be in such elite company,” said Frank McKee, Jr. “We work hard each day to ensure that our homes and communities are the ‘gold standard’ in active adult living, and we’re proud to be recognized for our efforts.”
McKee Builders was recognized by an elite panel of judges that included builders, developers, architects, marketing experts and other respected industry professionals. The panel chose finalists from nearly 200 total entries in more than 30 categories.
The Springfield, Pa.-based builder won Best Single Family Home Under 1,700 Sq. Ft. for its Kipling model. At 1,544 sq. ft., the Kipling is a one-level home featuring three bedrooms, two baths and an open floorplan. Homeowners may choose a sunroom or screened porch as part of the standard package. The home design also allows for an optional second floor and/or lower level. All McKee homes offer Energy Star Savings.
“We’re always listening to what our buyers want and need, and we’re continually innovating to enhance our homes and community amenities,” says Frank McKee, Jr. “Our homeowners know exactly what they want, and we are happy to provide that for them.”
Lifestyle is a core component of McKee’s active adult communities, which often include a clubhouse, pool, fitness center, and more. The clubhouse serves as the community hub for clubs, activities and social events.
“Whether retired or not, older buyers want to stay healthy and physically active,” said Jim Chapman, chairman of NAHB's 55+ Housing Industry Council and president of Jim Chapman Communities in Atlanta. “Builders are incorporating amenities that appeal to such buyers, like hiking and biking trails, extensive fitness centers and community kitchens that can host cooking classes. And mature buyers’ tastes are moving the design needle just a bit further from traditional style and closer to a clean, modern style with bold splashes of color.”McKee Builders also won Gold for Best Community Website for the Champions’ Club Active 55+ community in Kent County. The site, 55kentcounty.com, is easy to navigate and presents the community through beautiful photography, video testimonials from residents, and information about retirement in Kent County. A mortgage calculator and a section on “owning made easy” provide additional detail for interested homebuyers.
The NAHB 55+ Housing Industry Council unveiled the gold, silver and innovation award winners at a Jan. 10 gala held in conjunction with NAHB’s International Builders’ Show.
