Building A Home Has Never Been Simpler!

The building process can be a little scary if you’ve never built a brand new home before, or in some cases, even if you have. Here at McKee Builders, we like to make it as simple as possible. Our Building Process follows these steps, ensuring that you’ll know what to expect along the way.

  1. Visit a McKee Community. Our models & sales centers are typically staffed every day, so there is always someone available to escort visitors to the model homes, the home sites, etc.
  2. Pick a home. Tour our models, peruse our available floor plans, look through the options, and find the home that fits your needs & desires.
  3. Reserve your home site. Once you find a home site you love, you put down a $1,000 refundable homesite reservation. Then, within 10 days, you meet with your sales team to review structural options.
  4. Sign an agreement of sale & put down a deposit. At this time, you’re required to put down the deposit amount required by state law.
  5. Make selections. You have 30 days from the signing of the final agreement of sale to meet with our Design Studio Coordinator or a vendor to complete your selections. You will also be asked to select any custom options or upgrades at this time. And an additional deposit will be required at this point, as well. No more changes may be made after this step.
  6. Finalize financing. Once you have your final price, it’s time to figure out financing. Choose one of our preferred lenders, or handle financing yourself. We’ll distribute all necessary documentation & paperwork.
  7. Construction begins! Time to pour the foundation. Next up is framing, when the subfloor, trusses, studs, headers and support beams are put in place. Windows and exterior doors are also installed.
  8. Mechanical rough-ins. This stage includes installing plumbing, HVAC ductwork, and electrical wiring. At the end of the Mechanical stage, we walk through the home with you so you can see what’s “behind the walls”.
  9. Finishes & fixtures. At this stage, we install insulation, and put up walls and ceilings. Then, we begin installing cabinets, flooring, interior doors and trim. Next we move on to light fixtures, appliances, plumbing fixtures, hardware.
  10. Settlement date. After sheetrock is installed, we will give you an exact settlement date. A few weeks prior to settlement, our Settlement Coordinator will notify you of the time and location for your settlement. You will also be asked to set up your home orientation and inspection appointments.
  11. Orientation. Time to get to know your new McKee home! We’ll walk you through your new home and review all systems with you, and go through any items that you would like addressed.
  12. Closing & Move In! After months of planning, we happily turn your new home over to you.
  13. Post-closing warranties and follow-up. McKee is just as committed to your satisfaction once you take possession of your home, as we are during construction. In addition to our industry-leading warranty program, we follow up with you several times after closing, including a 30-day and 10-month warranty punch list visit
